HyoJeong Choi

A theatrical investigation into the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, focusing on the contract workers tasked with cleaning the site and the contradictory narratives surrounding their labor. The play follows the everyday lives of these workers—many of whom are older, working-class, and employed through a shadowy web of subcontractors. At the center of the play is Astro Girl, a cartoonish, wide-eyed narrator loosely inspired by Astro Boy, who disrupts the action with unreliable commentary, genre shifts, and tonal whiplash.
